Updates about COVID-19

As information about public health measures associated with COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) emerges, we will post it here.

Central Okanagan Public Schools' top priority is always the safety of our staff and students. We continue to work closely with local and provincial health authorities to get the latest information and ensure we cooperate with any recommended measures for COVID-19.

We continue to educate on best practices for preventing the spread of viral illness, including frequent and thorough handwashing and encouraging people to stay home from school or work when they show symptoms.

School campuses will remain closed to visitors unless otherwise invited. Students and families must not enter schools after Spring Break. This includes school grounds, playgrounds, classrooms, and StrongStart Centres. If you have personal items within your child(ren)'s school, we ask that you wait for invitation to pick up these items.

If you are an essential service worker (ESW) with a child aged 0-5, please see this news release from the Province of BC for information on how to connect with childcare.

Update - April 3, 2020 - Education Minister Rob Fleming answers questions submitted by Global BC viewers. The segment, called “Focus BC,” will air on BC1 throughout the weekend and next week and will be posted on the website:  - https://globalnews.ca/national/program/focus-bc

The Government of BC has declared a state of emergency and a public health emergency in order to exercise emergency powers such as cancelling gatherings of 50 or more people and enforce social distancing requirements for establishments.

On March 17, the Government of BC and the Ministry of Education announced the suspension of all K-12 in-class instruction until further notice. We will continue to provide information on the continuity of learning and the role schools will play in supporting public health measures as it becomes available.

School campuses will remain closed to visitors unless otherwise invited. Students and families must not enter schools after Spring Break. This includes school grounds, playgrounds, classrooms, and StrongStart Centres.
